the spot that i want to plant them is shady but does get sun at 4pm,
Do hydrangeas like shade. I'm looking for a bush with snowball like blooms that likes shade?
yes, my daughter has hydrangeas underneath large trees in her front yard.... they are huge. (part sun and part shade)
Be Blessed!
Reply:If your going for the snowball effect a Viburnum opulus is really gorgeous. It blooms many very large white ball-shaped flowers. It is also known as a European Cranberry. It will require more sun to shade however.
Reply:That may not be quite enough sun for them. They prefer lots of sun - they were originally cultivated in the sunny Azores. You could try it.

Reply:I have a hydrandea that rarely gets direcy sunlight but is the healthiest plant in the garden and, even though it is neglected (by me), it manages to produce huge blooms!
