Why do hydrangeas require hot water?

The TV show didn't say anything as to why they do

Why do hydrangeas require hot water?
I believe that the TV show was referring to CUT Hydrangea blooms.

Sometimes Hydrangea blooms wilt very quickly when cut, possibly due to a sticky substance that clogs the stems.

It is believed that setting the stems in boiling water for 30 seconds will unclog the stems. After 30 seconds, immediately put them in lukewarm water.
Reply:I have a hydrangea which has been with me for about seven years. It even moved house with me and survived. I have not heard that they need hot water. I have only ever watered it with normal cold tap water and rain water and it's doing fine!
Reply:I have several hydrangeas, different varieties, and I've never heard that before.

Mine are thriving on plain old water from the hose.
Reply:Never heard of this.

Lots of friends with this beautiful shrub and none uses hot water.
Reply:No hot water! You def. heard wrong. They need a 'LOT' of water - not 'HOT' water!!!!!!!!!!!!!
