Too early in Zone 6. There is a plant called Common Snowball (Viburnum opulus 'Roseum') that has large white hydrangea-like blooms in the late spring though. Becomes a very large (lilac bush size) shrub.
Are hydrangeas in season in May (in NJ)?
May might be a bit early for them in NJ- depends on the variety, though.
In Virginia, peak bloom for the macrophylla types is more in late May-June.
Reply:Most start blooming in July, but vining types probably will bloom in May or June. It all depends on the variety.
Reply:I live in Wisconsin, zone 3 and my hydrangea didn't bloom until 3 to 4 weeks ago. I have three different types and all bloomed about the same time.
